Ashton-under-Lyne, Slotworld

101 Old Street, is Slotworld Amusements.

Opened in 1920 as a cinema called the Majestic Picture House, then Gaumont, Odeon, and Metro, until closing as a cinema in 2003, and now Slotworld.

I knew all this. I didn’t Google it, much.

Ashton-under-Lyne, sculpture

Standing in ‘Old Square’, another view of the ‘Ashton Town Centre Sculpture’.
This time with The Feathers behind it. One of the pubs in Ashton that has not closed.

Ashton-under-Lyne, abandoned

The ‘Ashton Town Centre Sculpture’ and behind it, as I remember, Yates's. A busy Ashton centre pub. But over the years it’s changed: Yates's Wine Lodge, Dr. Browns, Legends, then was to be The Lodge, but that never happened. It’s now derelict. We’ve lost about half the pubs in Ashton and of the ones that are left, many are ‘For Sale’ or ‘To Let’.

Ashton-under-Lyne, St Peters Church

Is this the most famous view of Ashton?

St Peters Church. Recognisable as you drive down Manchester Road entering the town centre from the M60.

Ashton-under-Lyne, St Peters Street

I just hate it when they knock down a building and I cannot remember what it was that they knocked down!

Manchester Audenshaw

Out on the bike, I regularly see cars parked in the bike lane.
This garage has gone one further. It thinks it’s OK to sell cars from the bike lane.

Ashton-under-Lyne, rain

Perhaps not the day to sit out with a coffee.

Ashton-under-Lyne, clock tower

Our renewed Market Street clock tower.
Showing 10:35 and 10:10, the other sides showed 12:00 and 12:05.
The actual time was 12:20. Oh well.
I guess if they set the correct time our rates would have to go up.

Ashton-under-Lyne, rain

Today, it rained.

Ashton-under-Lyne, incident

I heard on the news that Ashton centre was closed due to an ‘incident’, so I cycled over and took a peek.
Small fire at the side of the road. I was hoping for something a bit more dramatic!

What a device, just to polish our windows.

buckled wheel

Just been knocked off my bike by a car coming out of a side street. All OK except for my wheel. I was out cycling in an effort to keep fit. Not sure being run over is the best way!

Window cleaners

Oh, it was only the window cleaners.

Manchester, Beetham tower

Anyone who carries a camera into Manchester centre will have photos of Beetham tower.
I have a bunch of them. I’ve narrowed them down to a few of the more unusual shots.

Manchester, Urbis

The Urbis centre on the left, and the Printworks on the right.
Urbis contains various interesting exhibitions and photographic works. My favourite is the photographic exhibition of Manchester by Andrew Brooks.
The Printworks has many restaurants and pubs along with an Imax screen and a Hard Rock Café. Certainly worth a look. My favourite is the Irish bar, Waxy O'Connor's.
