Chester, Shropshire Union Canal

http://www.luphen.org.uk/public/2001/2001canal1.htm

Another shot from Northgate Street, looking the other way this time.
The view shows the Shropshire Union Canal as it runs through the centre of Chester along side the city walls.
This part of the canal had to be cut through solid rock.

My father used to own a narrow boat, and we’ve been through Chester on this canal before.

Chester, Bridge of Sighs

The stone footbridge over the canal was built in 1793 to link the city jail with the chapel in the Blue Coat Hospital. (Pictured above).
It was called the ‘Bridge of Sighs’ because condemned prisoners crossed over to the chapel to receive their last rights before execution.

Well that’s what the blue placard on the canal bridge tells us.

Chester, George and Dragon

http://www.chesterwiki.com/George_and_Dragon
I used to work in Chester, but it was too far away from Ashton-under-Lyne to easily commute every day, so I used to stay here. The George and Dragon. Nice pub/hotel. Good for watching the football with some mates, having a few beers, then retiring to my room handily just up the stairs.

Chester, Deva

Old Roman city of Chester, or Deva, as they called it.
Some shots taken after the rain.
