The Blue plaque tells us the there used to be a mill here called Eli Whalley. They made Donkey Stones (soap sized stones use for scrubbing up doorsteps on old terraced houses).
Gee this brings back memories. We used donkey stones (via the rag and bone man) all around the outside of our terraced house in Manchester. I was keen to learn more about Donkey Stone Wharf from yesterday's posting but never put two and two together. Great post. No call for Donkey Stones here on the Gold Coast!
